Environments

We leave now the municipality of Capdepera to discover the Levante area whose capital is Manacor. Manacor is the 2nd largest city on the island and is famous for its pearls and furniture. Its port, ‘Porto Chrosto’, is world famous for the Drach and Hams Caves. Towns and villages in this area, like Arta, Son servera, San Lorenco and Manacor have easy access to the coast. Arta, about 10km away, has not been urbanized and hence maintains its character, except for its somewhat urbanized village of Colonia San Pere. It also has the Levante Natural Park with many coves and bays that can only be reached on foot, horseback or by mountainbike. Organised excursions are conducted from the tourist information center in Cala Ratjada. A visit is highly recommended.

Ravena beach

In the hills of Arta one also finds the Hermitage of Betlem, where even today some Fransiscan monks care for the land and their cattle. Arta also has a fortress and the Church of Saint Salvador which can be reached by car. From there, one can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay of Alcudia. The road is narrow and winding but the excursion is well worth it!
